Call for Papers: Signal Processing for Integrated Sensing and Communications

The rapidly growing demand on radio frequency spectrum has resulted in increasing spectral congestion and is placing significant pressure on these limited resources. This has spurred extensive efforts for spectrum sharing among disparate services, especially for radar and wireless communication systems. Under the general concept of integrated sensing and communications (ISAC), radar and communication functions are made to coexist and utilize resources efficiently to pursue their mutual benefits. ISAC can be designed and implemented in different forms, depending on the level of coordination and cooperation between the sensing and communication functionalities.

Successful implementation of ISAC depends on the development of a broad spectrum of novel signaling strategies and signal processing techniques. This special issue aims to bring together original research articles and topical reviews in a broad scope related to ISAC.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Signaling strategies and modulation techniques for ISAC
  • Waveform design for ISAC
  • Beamforming techniques for ISAC
  • Resource optimization for ISAC
  • Joint signal detection and parameter estimation in ISAC
  • Information theoretical analysis for ISAC
  • MIMO, massive MIMO, and reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) for ISAC
  • Secure sensing and communications in ISAC
  • Automotive radar and vehicular-to-everything (V2X) communications
  • Machine learning and intelligent processing for ISAC
  • Passive radar exploiting communication signals
  • Sensing assisted transceiver design and networking
